Tuesday’s game between the West Boca Bulls and the Taravella Trojans started with a bang as both teams struck for first-inning runs. That trend continued as the visiting Trojans scored a 15-6 win in the slugfest.

The Bulls jumped out to an early 3-0 lead when a single by Chris Sanders was quickly followed by consecutive walks to Oscar Bustamante and Dominic Iagrossi to load the bases.

What followed was a solid single by Alex Cordero for two quick runs for the visiting Bulls. Chris Cavallo singled to push across the third run of the top of the first and the Bulls were off and running.

The Trojans stepped up to the plate for the bottom of the first in a 3-0 deficit, but they proceeded to score four runs of their own thanks to a lead-off single by Andrew Labosky. A fly out to center field and the rally looked as if if might fizzle away, but up to the plate stepped Henry Matias and smashed a long home run to left-center field to put two runs on the board for the Trojans.

The Trojans plated two more additional runs thanks to doubles by Eddie Ayala and Nathan Housen to give the them a 4-3 lead after one inning.

“We have been trying to learn to put the gas on a little more, and tonight we were able to do that,” Andrew Labosky said. “We executed when we needed to and were able to plate some runs when we needed to tonight.”

The third inning resulted in a total of eight runs crossing the plate for the Trojans as their bats would strike in a key situation to produce runs. Two hit batters, with a couple of base on balls sandwiched in between, set the stage for a long double to deep right-center field by Nathan Housen to clear the bases.

The Trojans plated four more runs in the inning with the big blows coming from a single by Matias. After the third run batted in of the night by Matias, Brian Velez doubled to left-center field to finish the barrage for the home Trojans.

Alex Cordero, the designated hitter for the Bulls, drove a home run to deep left center field to lead off the fourth for the Bulls, but the visitors were unable to add any additional runs. The Trojans struck again in the bottom of the fourth for three additional runs to push the score to 15-4 after four innings.

A single by Darian Saunders plated two runs, then Andrew Labosky sent a solid single to right to push across the third run of the inning for the Trojans.

The visiting Bulls did not go quietly into the night, as they would strike for two additional runs in the top of the fifth. A single by Shavon Taylor would get it started, and RBI doubles by Jordan Keller and Dominic Iagrossi would close the gap in hopes of extending the game.

The home Trojans came to bat in the bottom of the fifth with hopes of ending the game then. After two outs, a double by Darian Saunders extended the inning a few batters. That was all the Trojans needed. Pinch-hitting for Santiago Cardona, Nick Carrasco plated one run. Livan Hernandez pinch-hit for Labosky and put the final run across to end the game with a solid single to right.

“We hit the ball pretty well, and we did a good job of picking up Cosi after the first inning,” Clark said. “There are always some nerves for the younger guys the first time on the mound. it was a good team win tonight.”
