Highlights, Scores and Recaps for Thursday, February 11th, 2016

Joe Spano drove in the winning run to give Piper a 5-4 win over Miramar on Thursday. Joe Sallustio struck out 10 in five innings, and Greg Snyder went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to help the Bengals improve to 2-0.

Joey Hennessey struck out 11, walked one and allowed one hit in four and two-thirds innings as Monarch beat Plantation 9-3. Hennessey also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a double and a walk for the Knights (1-0-1). Nick Gutierrez had two hits, including a double, and Kyle Tobey drove in a run and scored.

Kyle Benson pitched four strong innings to earn the win as St. Thomas overcame an 0-2 start to the season to defeat Columbus 3-1 in the Falcons First Pitch Classic. Eddie Klem went 2-for-2 with two runs, and Daniel Lowry (run) and Andrew Garcia (RBI) each had a hit.

In the other Falcons First Pitch Classic game, tournament host Flanagan defeated Monsignor Pace 3-1 behind Jeremy Cook’s 10-strikeout performance. He tossed five innings, allowing two hits, to get the win.

Rhys Friedman fanned eight in four innings to key South Plantation’s 3-2 win over McArthur.
